The old argument was simple. Build the cheap plant now and pay for the fuel later. For forty years that sentence decided what got built.

Keep the two claims apart. Solar being cheaper over a project lifetime is old news and settled years ago. What changed is the number you pay on day one.

Day one is the number that decides. A finance committee approves a capital request. It does not approve a fuel bill that arrives every month for thirty years.

Solar still front loads its cost. That has not changed and will not. What fell is how big the front load is.
