Your address, and what happens to it

You gave us an address so we could send you a letter. That is the whole arrangement, and this page is the whole of it written down.

Who we are

WE WATCH THE BOX.

To reach us about any of the above, reply to any edition. It comes back to the desk.

Are you going to sell my address?

No. We do not sell it, rent it, trade it, or lend it to a partner for a campaign. There is no arrangement under which your address leaves us for money. If that ever changed we would have to ask you first, and we are not planning to ask.

What do you actually have on me?

Your email address, because you typed it in. A first name if you gave one, which is optional. Whether our editions open and whether links get clicked. Ordinary web records when you visit the site: IP address, browser, where you came from. That is the list.

And what do you not have?

No phone number. No postal address. No date of birth. No payment details, because this site takes no money and has no field to take it in. Nothing about your holdings, your employer or your income. Nothing about what you do on other websites. There is no field for any of it, so there is no file of it.

Who else gets to see it?

The providers that do two jobs for us, and no one else. The one that sends the letter holds your address, because mail cannot be delivered to an address nobody holds. The one that runs this site sees the ordinary request records every web server sees. They work under contract for us, and none may use your address for purposes of their own. That is the full list of hands.

How do I get out?

Unsubscribe at the foot of any edition. One click and the mail stops. We keep your address on a do-not-mail list so the system cannot write to you again by mistake. If you want the rest of your record gone as well, ask, and we delete it.

Can I see what you hold, or have it deleted?

Yes to both. Write to us and ask. We will tell you what is on file, correct it if it is wrong, or delete it. No fee and no explanation required. California and European law put those rights in writing for some readers, and we extend them to every reader.

Do you use cookies?

The site uses what it needs to load and to count visits. We do not run advertising trackers on this site and we do not follow you to other ones.

We update this page when the facts change, and the date at the top moves with it.
