The Nuclear Deal That Passes If Nobody Votes
Trump sent Congress a civil nuclear pact with Saudi Arabia on Monday. It carries no permanent ban on enrichment.

The paperwork went up Monday. Trump submitted a civil nuclear cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia to two congressional committees. The clock written into the Atomic Energy Act started the same day.
|

Section 123 of that act works backward from what people assume. Approval is not what it asks for. It gives Congress sixty legislative days to object. After that the agreement takes effect on its own.

|
Objecting is harder than it sounds. The statute requires a joint resolution. It must be adopted and enacted. Enacted means it has to survive a presidential veto.

The administration attached one condition. It moves only if Saudi Arabia joins the Abraham Accords. That is a diplomatic trade, not a safeguard on the fuel.

Enrichment is the step that matters. Natural uranium will not run a reactor. Machines spin it until the useful part is concentrated enough. Run the same machines longer and you get bomb fuel.

Your end of it is the fuel line. Uranium runs near eighty nine dollars a pound, the highest since February. The shortage is in enrichment, not in ore. A plant built in the Gulf competes for the same capacity your own utility is waiting on.

Watch who moved. Uranium sat in a five month range between eighty four and eighty seven dollars, then broke out in August. The Energy Department led this agreement, not the State Department.

Enrichment is knowledge before it is machinery. Early still beats late.
