PANDORA’S BOX EVERYTHING GOT OUT. THE HOPE IS AT THE BOTTOM. |
THE ONE-WAY DOOR The regulator read 420,000 pages and found the same policy at all nine banks Nine of nine, from 2020 to September 2025. No fines were announced, and the names are now in a federal report. |
It is in a federal report now. On Wednesday the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency published what it found when it examined debanking. The nine largest national banks it supervises are named in it. |
The review worked through nearly 100,000 complaints and about 420,000 pages of documents. |
The finding came back the same for every one of them. |

| 9 of 9 BANKS REVIEWED, BANKS WITH SUCH A POLICY | → | The policies ran from 2020 to September 2025. No fines were announced, and new rules are still only under consideration. |
|
|
The finding itself is narrow and specific. All nine held policies that required, encouraged or influenced decisions to deny or limit financial services. |
The grounds named are political or religious beliefs, affiliations, and lawful business activity. |
The mechanism has a name. Reputation risk. |
Those policies lacked clear standards and objective, risk-based criteria, the agency said. That is what let a view sit where a number should. |
The nine are JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Citibank, Wells Fargo, U.S. Bank, Capital One, PNC Bank, TD Bank and BMO Bank. |
Comptroller Jonathan Gould put the standard in one line. “Americans should have access to financial services regardless of their beliefs…” |
One case named is WePay, a JPMorgan unit, which closed accounts belonging to several political and religious groups. |
JPMorgan says its own policies bar discrimination on political or religious grounds. It also said the WePay process fell short of what it expects. |
Wells Fargo declined to comment. Several of the others did not respond that day, according to Bloomberg. |
Worth saying plainly: the report also records cases that ran the other way politically. It is not a finding in one direction only. |
All nine told the agency those policies have since been revised or consolidated. |
The agency was not satisfied with that. It said none of the nine has fully acknowledged the earlier decisions. |
None, it said, has built a full program to make affected customers whole. |
No fines. No sanctions. The agency says it is weighing new rules instead. |
The review itself began in September 2025, after an executive order told regulators to examine debanking. The report carries that order’s own title, Guaranteeing Fair Banking for All Americans. |
The banks’ trade body answered in general terms. It said the industry supports clear and consistent standards on access to banking. It added that political or religious belief should not decide who gets served. |

If you passed down your assets tomorrow…
Most of them would notify the system automatically.
Bank transfers. Brokerage accounts. Property filings.
Instant paper trail.
But certain physical gold coins, like American Gold Eagles, are classified as non-reportable transactions under IRS rules.
No automatic 1099 when qualifying coins are purchased. No brokerage statement. No banking system required.
And when it’s time to pass them down? You don’t transfer an account. You hand them over.
No middlemen. No forms. No red tape.
And here is what most people don’t realize: you can use your existing retirement account, 401(k), IRA, or TSP, to buy them tax-deferred and penalty-free.
With 2026 estate shifts approaching, families aren’t waiting to see what changes. They’re repositioning now.
✔ Which gold coins qualify as non-reportable under IRS rules
✔ How to use your 401(k), IRA, or TSP to buy physical gold
✔ How to store and eventually pass it down without the paperwork
✔ Why gold surged 64% in 2025, and where it may be headed next

It is also asking a harder question of itself. Whether the money laundering rules banks follow have been pushing accounts shut on their own. |
One limit is worth keeping in view. The report describes policies, not a count of accounts actually closed. |

EVERY LEAD PASSES BEFORE IT RUNS The One-Way-Door Test |
01 | Can it be undone? The findings are out with names, documents and case studies attached. A published report does not get unpublished.
|
02 | Who is already repositioning? All nine say the policies are revised. The agency says none has fully acknowledged what was decided before.
|
03 | What does being late cost? Nothing today. The cost shows up only if a rule follows, and the rulemaking is still under consideration.
|
THE MOVE · WHILE THERE IS STILL TIME Open your own account agreement and find the section on closing an account. Note two things. The notice you are owed, and whether the bank must give a reason. The report describes policies, not a wave of closures. Most customers will never meet one. The clause is worth reading anyway. |

WHAT’S LEFT AT THE BOTTOM Nearly 100,000 complaints means a great many people wrote in, one at a time, with no idea it would add up. That is what put nine names in a public record. WE WATCH THE BOX. |
