PANDORA’S BOX
EVERYTHING GOT OUT. THE HOPE IS AT THE BOTTOM.

THE ONE-WAY DOOR
The revisions are only going one direction
The next big jobs correction drops August twenty eighth. The last three years each cut hundreds of thousands of jobs off the tally.
The jobs number has two versions. The rough draft prints on the first Friday of every month. The final version drops once a year. It has taken about a million jobs off the count each of the last three.
August twenty eighth is when this year’s final version drops.
The math is not complicated. BLS starts with a sample of one in four American employers. It models the rest. Once a year it checks the model against tax records that cover almost everyone.

JOBS TAKEN OFF THE COUNT AT LAST YEAR’S REVISION
| → |
This was the twelve months through March of twenty twenty five. The next revision covers twelve months through March of this year. It drops August twenty eighth. |
Every check has cut jobs off. Twenty twenty three lost about three hundred thousand. In twenty twenty four the cut was eight hundred and eighteen thousand. Last year it was nine hundred and eleven thousand.
The last release cut April by thirty one thousand and May by forty three thousand. Both landed lower than the first prints said.
There is a second measure. BLS runs a household survey alongside the payroll one. It says eight hundred and thirty three thousand fewer people have jobs since January. Payrolls disagree by that many, in the other direction.
Both surveys come from the same agency. One of them has been wrong for a year. The revisions never go the other way.

EVERY LEAD PASSES BEFORE IT RUNS
The One-Way-Door Test
| 01 |
Can it be undone?
The benchmark checks payrolls against tax records that cover ninety five percent of jobs. That is as close to ground truth as the data gets. Nothing in the next twenty seven days could bend it back to the rough draft.
| 02 |
Who is already moving?
The household survey has said weaker for a year. Congress asked BLS about the pattern in twenty twenty four. The bond market is pricing hikes despite the softer labor read. Fed dissenters are still voting for tightening.

What does being late cost?
Anyone who set retirement math on the payroll story is behind the household story. That gap has been building for three years. August twenty eighth closes some of it in one morning.

THE MOVE · WHILE THERE IS STILL TIME
Do not read next Friday’s July print as gospel. Read the two-month revisions to April and May in the same release. Then wait for August twenty eighth.
The rough draft is what the market will trade. The final version is what your household is living. If the two do not agree, believe your neighbors.

ALSO GOT LOOSE TODAY
The thirty year yield closed at five point two eight percent Thursday, a nineteen year high. The ten year cleared four point seven four. The bond market is telling the Fed that patience does not mean lower for the long stretch. |
MONEY |
SpaceX prints its first public earnings Monday after the close. Two trading days later, the lockup on nine hundred million insider shares opens. The stock is trading below the June offering price into the report. |
MACHINES |
US forces launched fresh strikes on Iranian targets this week after attacks on American assets in the region. Tehran is holding its position on enrichment. The Wednesday ceasefire read looks weaker by the day. |

WHAT’S LEFT AT THE BOTTOM
Most people will trade next Friday’s number and move on. You will wait for August twenty eighth, when the year’s math meets the tax records. Your household already knows which side of the count it has been on.
WE WATCH THE BOX.
