PANDORA’S BOX EVERYTHING GOT OUT. THE HOPE IS AT THE BOTTOM. |
THE ONE-WAY DOOR The subsidy cliff is back for 2027, and doing nothing renews you into it Insurers filed a median 15 percent increase. Seven are leaving. The cap on repaying excess credit is gone. |
November 1. The window opens that morning. The date that actually decides your January is December 15. |
Open enrollment for Marketplace coverage runs to January 15. Enroll after December 15 and the plan starts in February. |
Even those dates were in doubt. A rule would have closed the window on December 15, and a court vacated it in June. |
That ruling is under appeal. For now both dates stand. |

We got phones that answer our questions. Video calls with family on the other side of the world. Rockets that land themselves. Almost everything the sci-fi of our childhood promised has arrived.
The flying car is still missing.
A Florida company called Doroni is working to change that. Its H1-X is a two-seat electric aircraft that takes off straight up like a helicopter, flies up to 120 mph, and charges at home.
It’s further along than you might expect. Doroni’s earlier prototypes have completed 70+ test flights with FAA clearance for testing, and first H1-X deliveries are planned for 2028.
You can own a piece of the company building it.
We’ve waited decades for the flying car. Your chance to invest at $3.30 per share ends at 11:59 PM ET tonight.

For a family of four the same line is $132,000. |
That cliff was flattened for four years. The enhanced credits expired on the last day of 2025, and Congress has not renewed them. |
The House passed a two-year extension in January. The Senate did not, and no floor action is scheduled. |
Prices moved with it. Insurers filed a median 15 percent increase for 2027, across 276 companies in every state. |
That is the second double-digit year running. The 2026 figure finished at a median of 20 percent. |
The spread is wide. Requests run from a 1 percent cut to a 54 percent rise. Under 7 percent in Vermont, Iowa and Utah. About 29 percent in Arizona. |
Then there is the quieter change. The cap on repaying excess credit is gone. |
Estimate your income low, take the credit all year, and the whole difference comes back at tax time. There is no ceiling on it now. |
The out-of-pocket maximum rises too, to $12,000 for one person and $24,000 for a family. |
Seven insurers are leaving the Marketplace for 2027. Their enrollees across 20 states will have to choose somebody else. |
Which is where auto-renewal stops being convenient. Renewal into a plan that no longer exists is not a plan. |
The default is the problem here. Coverage rolls over on its own, and the price rolls over with it. |
Nobody has to decide anything for that to happen. That is what makes it a door rather than a choice. |
Employer coverage is no refuge either. Benefit costs there are set to rise 8.2 percent next year, the fastest since 2003. |
Much of that lands on workers, as higher deductibles rather than a visibly higher premium. |

Which is the pattern worth naming. Health costs now arrive as a deductible, a cliff or a repayment, rarely as a bill you were shown first. |
One honest limit. These are filed rates, not final ones, and the numbers can still move before November. |
And for anyone under the cliff, the credit rises with the benchmark and absorbs most of the increase. Above it, the whole rise is yours. |

EVERY LEAD PASSES BEFORE IT RUNS The One-Way-Door Test |
01 | Can it be undone? A plan chosen in December holds for the year. Changing it afterwards needs a qualifying life event.
|
02 | Who is already repositioning? The insurers. Seven of them are out of the Marketplace for 2027, across twenty states.
|
03 | What does being late cost? A month of cover. Choose after December 15 and the policy starts in February, not January.
|
THE MOVE · WHILE THERE IS STILL TIME Find the renewal notice your insurer sent and read two lines. Next year’s premium, and whether your plan still exists. Then check your income estimate against $63,840. These are filed rates, not final ones. Under the cliff, the credit absorbs most of the rise, so the headline number is not your number. |
