THE ONE-WAY DOOR
Iran put a seven-day reopening on paper, and Trump said no
The offer to reopen Hormuz lasted one news cycle. Oil traders priced it on Friday and meet the answer tonight.
It ended on the South Lawn. Donald Trump stopped on his way to Marine One on Saturday and told reporters, “I reject their proposal.” Then he flew to Knoxville to watch Tennessee play Texas.
The proposal had landed one day earlier. At the United Nations, Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, said Tehran had sent Washington a concrete plan through Qatar. Meet the conditions, he said, and normal shipping through the strait returns within seven days.
The price was spelled out. America would lift its naval blockade of Iranian ports and waive sanctions on Iranian oil. About $12 billion in frozen Iranian money would be released, with a ceasefire covering Lebanon and Yemen too.

IRAN’S TIMETABLE TO REOPEN THE STRAIT
→ |
That was the shortest road back to normal shipping on the table. Saturday took it off, and your $4.48 gallon lost its quickest way down. |
Wall Street had already bought the hope. On Friday, November crude fell 2.21% to $92.52 a barrel on reports of progress over the strait. The Dow rose 0.93%.
Then the deal died on a Saturday, with every exchange shut. Oil futures reopen at 6 p.m. Eastern tonight, and Friday’s discount has to survive that first hour on its own.
You have heard “deal near” about this war before. June brought a signed memorandum in Islamabad. By July the strikes were back.
This round carries one detail June lacked, reported by The Wall Street Journal from unnamed officials. Trump has told aides he expects a new bombing campaign after the November midterms. So the next marked date on this war’s calendar is an election, five weeks out.
Unless somebody changes his mind this week, heating season opens with the strait still choked.

EVERY LEAD PASSES BEFORE IT RUNS
The One-Way-Door Test
01 |
Can it be undone?
Easily, on paper. The terms are public now, and one reversal in Washington puts them back in play.
02 |
Who is already repositioning?
Araghchi routed the plan through Qatar. Oman told the General Assembly on Saturday it will keep mediating, and Trump is betting pressure buys better terms.
03 |
What does being late cost?
Friday’s cheaper barrel was bought on a deal that died a day later. Tonight’s open and the first week of November are the two dates to mark.

The bulk order that keeps the lights on across 13 states just jumped from $2.2 billion to $14.7 billion, nearly 7x in one year, because data centers are draining the grid. There’s one energy source that runs 24/7 with no fuel, and Washington just preserved its tax credits through 2033 while terminating everyone else’s. Google signed for 15 years. Bill Gates invested $100 million. One company has spent sixty years building it.

THE MOVE · WHILE THERE IS STILL TIME
If you heat with oil or propane, call your dealer this week and get the fixed winter price in writing. Put it next to today’s cash rate and decide at the kitchen table.
If the strait reopens in October, a locked price could sit above the market all winter. That is what certainty costs, and on gas or electric heat you can skip the call.
